DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email authentication system used to confirm that an email has been sent by an authenticated person or server. A digital signature is attached to the header of the message by using a private encryption key. When the message is received, a public key that is available in the global DNS database is used to validate who exactly sent it and if its content has been edited in any way. The main purpose of DomainKeys Identified Mail is to impede the widespread spam and scam email messages, as it makes it impossible to forge an email address. If a message is sent from an address claiming to belong to your bank or financial institution, for example, but the signature doesn’t match, you will either not receive the email at all, or you will receive it with a warning that most likely it is not genuine. It depends on mail service providers what exactly will happen with an email that fails the signature check. DKIM will also provide you with an additional safety layer when you communicate with your business partners, for example, since they can see that all the e-mails that you send are authentic and have not been tampered with in the meantime.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Shared Website Hosting

When you order any of the shared website hosting that we’re offering, the DomainKeys Identified Mail functionality will be activated by default for any domain name that you register under your shared website hosting account, so you won’t need to create any records or to do anything manually. When a domain is added in the Hosted Domains section of our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel using our NS and MX records (so that the emails related to this domain name will be handled by our cloud platform), a private key will be created right away on our email servers and a TXT resource record with a public key will be sent to the global DNS system. All addresses created using this domain will be protected by DKIM, so if you send out emails such as periodic newsletters, they will reach their target audience and the receivers will know that they are genuine, because the DKIM option makes it impossible for unsolicited persons to forge your e-mail addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you pick one of the semi-dedicated servers that we offer, you’ll be able to use the DomainKeys Identified Mail feature with any domain name that you register through your brand new semi-dedicated account without any manual intervention, as our outstanding cloud hosting platform will set up all the compulsory records automatically, as long as the domain uses our name servers. The latter is needed for a TXT record to be set up for the domain, as this is how the public cryptographic key can become available in the global DNS system. The private key will also be added automatically to our email servers, so every time you send out a new message, it will carry our platform’s electronic signature. The number of unsolicited bulk emails keeps increasing each year and very often fake addresses are used, but when you use our hosting services, you and your clients or associates won’t have to worry about that.
