The .SE ccTLD was started in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration process was very restrictive, so a very small number of domain names were bought. Individuals were allowed to get solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a requirement, i.e. only Swedish persons, companies and organizations were able to book a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized a lot and, as a consequence, the number of dot SE domains has been mounting each year.
